IntraLase LASIK Gaining in Popularity

More and more LASIK cases are being performed with the IntraLase laser. While less than 40% of LASIK surgeons perform IntraLase, well over 60% of LASIK cases performed in the United States are IntraLase LASIK. This is because most higher volume LASIK surgeons prefer IntraLase and LASIK consumers are discovering the safety advantage of IntraLase over other LASIK techniques. IntraLase LASIK costs more than other LASIK procedures because two seperate sophisticated lasers are needed rather than just one laser in conventional LASIK. The US military has performed an analysis of LASIK technology and their opinion is that IntraLase LASIK is the safest and best LASIK technology. 100% of LASIK cases performed by the Department of Defense are IntraLase LASIK. Dr. Dean Dornic of the Laser Eye Center of Carolina is the first Raleigh area LASIK surgeon to perform IntraLase LASIK. His center now boasts of having North carolina's only iFS IntraLase laser.

How Much Does LASIK Cost?

If you've been thinking about LASIK eye surgery, one of the things you might be wondering about is LASIK cost. The LASIK procedure should be considered an investment. Over the long run, LASIK will save you money over the cost of glasses or contact lenses. Patients may be tempted to call around and choose a LASIK provider based on price alone. But LASIK technology and LASIK care packages vary widely. Before choosing a provider consider factors such as surgeon reputation and involvement. Make sure you understand any additional charges such as follow-up care and the cost associated with enhancement procedures. What about necessary antibiotic drops? Newer technologies can provide better results and be associated with fewer side-effects. Often times choosing the lowest price LASIK procedure is no bargain For more information on LASIK costs, Raleigh LASIK patients should check out the LASIK cost information website: http://www.lasik-cost.info/LASIK_Costs.html

Minimizing Dry Eyes From LASIK

Most people considering LASIK are aware that one potential side effect from the procedure is dry eyes. Occassionally the symptoms can be fairly severe and may last a year, rarely longer. There are some things you can do to minimize dry eye symptoms. If you have underlying dry eye, you likely will not be a candidate for LASIK. Instead you may want to consider PRK, SBK, OmniLase or Implantable Contacts. If you have borderline dry eye (symptoms only present under more extreme conditions: when wearing contacts, exposed to wind etc)you may want to prepare for the expected symptoms of dry eyes by starting Restasis ahead of time, starting fish oil capsules or receiving puntum plugs at the time of your LASIK procedure. A newer model of IntraLase laser used to creat the LASIK flap has been shown to minimize the severity and duration of dry eyes after LASIK. The Laser Eye Center of Carolina is the only facility in North Carolina offering LASIK with the IFS laser.
